Understand how referrals work
1. Your Customer Advocate (customer A) refers their friend (customer B) by sending them their referral URL.
2. When customer B clicks on the URL, they should see a prompt for them to enter their email address. When customer B enters their email address, the 'Friend' reward will be sent to them via email.
From the email, Customer B will be able to copy their coupon code and use it in an order:
3. If customer B then goes on to make a purchase, customer A will get their reward.
Note that the friend does not need to create an account, nor use the friend reward that they redeemed in order to complete the referral. They would just have to make a purchase!
With a Smile referral program, your customers are encouraged to share their referrals from directly within the customer panel. By default the sharing options are Facebook, X, and email.
Advocates can also copy and paste their referral url and send it to friends and family wherever they like.
How do customers redeem points?
Customers can redeem rewards from within their panel by copying a code into checkout or applying the code to checkout from within the rewards panel
Customers need to have an account and be a Member to redeem points
Smile allows you to combine discounts and this is how customers can use multiple discounts for one order!

Customers can choose 1 reward by using Apply code within the Smile panel and the other reward has to be copied to the clipboard and applied at checkout

Customers can still combine rewards with a checkout extension, one can be redeemed from within the checkout extension and one must be copied from the panel
To turn points into a reward, your customers will need to log into the rewards panel on your site. Once they're logged in, they'll need to open the rewards panel.
Next, click on Ways to redeem.
If they do have enough points for one of the Fixed amount rewards, there will be a Redeem button:
To redeem points on Incremental rewards, your customer will need to use the points slider to select the amount of point they would like to spend, then click Redeem:
Upon clicking redeem, your customer will be taken to a page that shows the coupon code with a button to Apply code which will automatically apply that coupon code to the checkout.
Based on your settings in Notifications, your customers also may get an email with the coupon code for their records. The code will also be stored in their rewards panel under the Your Rewards section at the bottom.
